In what will come across as a rather surprising development, a barefoot Australian woman entered a backyard in Sydney’s southwest on Australia Day and approached a man’s son and allegedly tried to kidnap him.
According to Daily Telegraph, the woman has not been charged and is currently being assessed by health experts.
The 27-year-old woman was confronted by a man after he found the woman in his Leumeah backyard on Australia Day only metres from his playing so n — with the whole exchange caught on film and uploaded to Facebook.
Police allege the woman was in the backyard attempting to steal shoes but the shocked father who confronted the woman feared the woman had darker motives for being near his son.
“I just caught this lady in my backyard trying to snatch my little boy,” the man said on film. “The police are on the way and they told me I can detain you.
“The kids overheard what you were asking my son and you are trying to snatch him barefoot”.
Police have confirmed the woman was taken to hospital for assessment.
The woman denies the allegation claiming she “knows the truth”. She then appears to become disoriented, asking the man what the date is.
A second video, filmed after the police have arrived, shows the woman being handcuffed by plain clothes officers and then led away.
Legal action is expected to be taken following the woman’s release from hospital.
