Nigerian human rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), was on Monday, totally embarrased after some youths who booed him at the 14th Annual Chief Gani Fawenhimi Lecture in Ikeja, Lagos where he was one of the discussants.
According to a report by PUNCH Newspaper, the youths blocked the path of Ozekhome, who arrived the venue of the lecture at the Airport Hotel in Ikeja at about 1.30pm, insisting that the SAN would not be allowed into the lecture hall.
It was gathered that the senior Nigerian advocate's arrival was greeted with a loud chant of disapproval by the youths, who disrupted the lecture which was already underway.
It took the intervention of the Chairman of the Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Adesina Ogunlana; and that of Richard Akinola, to shield Ozekhome from the irate youths who accused the SAN of “shielding looters from justice.”
It was learnt further that Femi Falana (SAN), who was also at the event, had to also leave the high table where he sat among others to placate the youths and calm them down.
Ozekhome who was later led to the high table, was seen sitting among other discussants, including musician, Seun Kuti; Fawehinmi’s son, Mohammed; and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.
