Chrissy Turner, a ten-year-old girl has become the youngest patient to be diagnosed with breast cancer.
According to Metro UK, Chrissy Turner found a lump on her chest when she was just eight. In 2015, she underwent a mastectomy which removed all of her right breast tissue and prevented the rare secretory breast cancer from spreading.
Chrissy, from Utah, hadn’t even bought her first bra when her parents took her to a doctor to investigate the lump.
Her parents, Annette and Troy, have both previously battled cancer so they took no chances and quickly sought medical attention for their daughter.
The third doctor that the family saw recognised the lump for what it was and a month later Chrissy was on the operating table. The procedure successfully prevented the cancerous tissue from spreading to her lymph nodes.
‘Honestly, with all we’ve gone through, she’s doing really well’, Annette said of her daughter. Adding that the health scare ‘hasn’t slowed her down a bit’. ‘We’ve all had such close brushes with cancer,’ Annette said. ‘It’s really aligned us.’ Chrissy is due to start breast reconstruction in her teens, when her school friends will hit puberty and develop naturally.
Chrissy’s mum had to explain that only one side of her chest will grow but she said that it doesn’t seem to bother her daughter much.
The family have a set up a page for well-wishers to donate money towards Chrissy’s medical bills.
