The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man suspected to be a member of a ‘one chance’ syndicate after a failed attempt to rob a resident.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Usen Omorodion, said the suspects posed as taxi driver and passengers to rob unsuspecting residents that boarded their vehicles.
He said one Maryam Okon was recently a victim when she boarded an Mpape bound taxi from Area 3, Garki. There were two male passengers already in the vehicle.
“While in the vehicle, she engaged with the occupants in a discussion about dollars in their possession that needed to be changed. She then parted with N200,000 after she was hypnotised.
“When the charm wore off, she raised an alarm and the suspects were apprehended by some residents who attempted to lynch them before they were rescued by the police,” he said.
He said a vehicle was recovered from the suspect and that he would be prosecuted.
He appealed to residents to be security conscious while boarding taxis and avoid getting into conversations with strangers when boarding taxi cabs.
