A great tragedy has claimed the lives of at least 200 people after a church building collapsed in Akwa-Ibom state.

At least 200 people have been killed after a church building collapsed in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State in southern Nigeria.
Reports said that the Reigners Bible Church located at Uyo Village road, off Barrack road was filled to capacity when the disaster occurred. The church located at Uyo Village Road, off Barrack Road, is said to have been filled to the brim as the Pastor, Akan Week, was being consecrated as a bishop when the incident happened.
According to Punch, the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, was expected to attend the consecration, but sources said he was not at the church when it collapsed.
Sources close to the church added that the church was being renovated and upgraded ahead of the event.
Rescue workers are battling to evacuate victims.
