Police Launch Fresh Crackdown on Cultism and Youth Violence at UNICAL

The police command in Cross River State is launching a campaign to fight cultism, political thuggery and other youth problems at the University of Calabar.

The police commissioner announced this during a meeting with the university's leadership.

The police will set up a special unit on campus called the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices to talk to students and raise awareness about the dangers these activities pose.

The focus will be on cult groups, violence, drug abuse and other social problems that threaten student safety.

The commissioner said the police would also work to discourage political thuggery ahead of upcoming elections, particularly the use of youth for violence, online harassment and digital incitement.

The command plans to strengthen community policing by building partnerships with the university and using intelligence to prevent crime before it happens.

He stressed the importance of acting early to spot and deal with security threats before they get worse and promised the university that police would do everything to protect students and keep the campus safe.

The police commissioner said he would continue building strong partnerships with the university and other organisations to improve public safety and encourage young people to be responsible citizens.

The university's leadership welcomed the partnership and said it was committed to working closely with the police throughout the academic year to keep the campus community safe and secure.
