


A prime suspect has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command in connection with the gruesome m8rder of a businessman, Alhaji Awoyinka Sumaila, in Ore.
Sumaila, a dealer in building materials, was shot d3ad at his residence opposite Caring Heart Mega School, Idi Mango area of Ore on Saturday evening, March 1, 2025.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, April 11.
According to the PPRO, the suspect, Ijalo, was arrested in Osogbo following a discreet investigation.
“The Ondo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the murder case of Late Alhaji Awoyinka Sumaila, a prominent businessman who was gruesomely k!lled in his residence in Ore on 1st March, this year,” the statement read.
"Following a discreet and thorough investigation, officers of the Command apprehended the prime suspect, one Ijalo ‘m’ on the 10/04/2025, an alleged resident of Osogbo.
"The arrest was made after a painstaking manhunt led operatives back to Ore, where a locally-made pistol believed to have been used in the murder, along with criminal charms, were recovered during a search of the suspect’s premises.
"The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, commended the diligence of his men and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents.
“He assured the public that no stone would be left unturned in ridding Ondo State of criminal elements, with renewed focus on intelligence-driven policing.”
According to a source in the community, the incident happened shortly after the deceased left the mosque after Ramadan prayer.
