Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed optimism about President Bola Tinubu emerging victorious in the 2027 elections.

He stated that Tinubu's second term is secure, despite opposition efforts to challenge him.

Akpabio made the declaration late Wednesday during a special Iftar dinner organized by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) at Fraser Suites in Abuja. The event, aimed at fostering unity among APC leaders, turned into a political rally as top figures promoted the party’s achievements and strategized for 2027.

Speaking at the gathering, Akpabio expressed confidence that the ruling party would not only retain power but also expand its influence across more states.

“We will come back in 2027, in Jesus’ name, Amen,” he declared.

“We will offer prayers for our party, that yes, indeed, victory shall be ours in 2027. Can we say a loud amen! And we will also pray for Mr. President that his second term is assured. Can we shout a loud amen!”

He then called for a symbolic vote on APC’s return in 2027. “Those in support of the motion that the APC should come back in 2027, say ‘aye,’ those against, say ‘nay,’” he said. When the audience overwhelmingly responded with “aye,” he concluded, “The ayes have it.”

Akpabio also encouraged senators eyeing governorship positions in 2027 to pursue their ambitions, citing Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo as an example of a senator who successfully transitioned to a governorship role.

The Iftar, chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, was attended by prominent APC leaders, including governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti). Other key figures present included Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, and former SGF Boss Mustapha.

Additionally, 20 senators, comprising both APC lawmakers and opposition members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), accompanied Akpabio. Among them were Senators Osita Izunaso (APC, Imo West), Amos Yohanna (PDP, Adamawa North), Victor Umeh (LP, Anambra Central), Kelvin Chukwu (LP, Enugu East), Simon Lalong (APC, Plateau South), and Jimoh Ibrahim (APC, Ondo South).

The event further solidified APC’s political momentum as leaders rallied support for Tinubu’s administration and strategized ahead of the 2027 elections.
