A Nigerian lawyer, Toyin Ndidi Taiwo-Ojo, has spoken about a case she handled involving a polygamous man who physically and financially abuses his three wives.
Toyin, who shared the story in a Facebook post on Monday, said she and her team got involved after the man allegedly broke his youngest's wife's head, threw her out of the house after taking the 7 months baby she was nursing and her four other children.
She wondered how a man who cannot cope with one woman marry many women.
"Handled a case of an abusive polygamist with 11 children and three wives. He owns a school and "forced" his wives to work there and pays them fifteen thousand naira only," she wrote.
"Any infraction, he deducts money from their salary and sometimes the women are made to collect ten thousand naira only as salary.
"On top of it, he is physically abusive and we got involved because he broke iyawo kékeré's head and pushed her out of the house after collecting the 7 months baby she was nursing and the four other children.
"To cut this rather long story short, God used us to rescue her and her children. This is not 1995 story, it is a 2025 story.
My question is, how can someone who cannot cope with one woman, marry many?''.
