The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro has issued a warning to US President Donald Trump.

According to him, Trump would never rule the world.

In a statement, Petro said he was unperturbed by Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on Colombia.

According to Petro: “Trump, I don’t really enjoy travelling to the US—it’s a bit boring. However, I must admit there are some commendable things. I like visiting the Black neighbourhoods of Washington, where I witnessed clashes in the US capital between Black and Latino communities. It seemed nonsensical to me because they should unite.

“Your blockade does not intimidate me because Colombia, besides being a land of beauty, is the heart of the world. I know you admire beauty as much as I do, so do not disrespect it, and it will offer its sweetness to you.

“From today onwards, Colombia is open to the entire world with open arms. We are builders of freedom, life, and humanity.

“I understand that you impose a 50% tariff on the fruits of our labour to enter the United States. In return, I do the same.

“Let our people plant the corn that was discovered in Colombia and feed the world.

“I don’t like your oil, Trump. It will destroy the human species because of greed. Perhaps one day, over a glass of whiskey—which I reluctantly accept despite my gastritis—we can have an honest conversation about this. But it’s difficult because you consider me part of an inferior race. I am not, nor is any Colombian.

“You may kill me, but I will live on in my people, who existed in the Americas long before yours. We are a people of the winds, the mountains, the Caribbean Sea, and freedom.”
