Former Presidential aspirant and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has arrived at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) Headquarters in Abuja, for questioning by the police.

Sowore, who appeared at about 9:58 a.m on Monday, January 27, was summoned after posting a viral video accusing police officers of extortion at a Lagos checkpoint.

The police investigation into his actions includes several serious allegations, such as obstructing public officers, disobeying lawful orders, cyberstalking, and attempting to prevent arrests.

In a letter from the Nigeria Police Force, Sowore was informed that he was being investigated for offenses involving obstruction, intimidation, and reckless actions, with his name reportedly central to the inquiry.

The letter specifically requested his presence at the FID on January 27, 2025, at 10 a.m.

In response to his summons, Sowore’s activist group, the Take It Back Movement, promoted a protest on social media against police extortion.

The movement’s flier, which included images of Sowore and the Inspector General of Police, quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter) and urged people to “Occupy Force Headquarters.”

Ahead of the protest, police heightened security around the Force Headquarters, with heavily armed officers and anti-riot units positioned on roads leading to the complex.

The increased presence appeared to be a response to the planned demonstration.

At the time of this report, Sowore was still at the FID for his interview, while the atmosphere around the police headquarters remained tense but under control.
