A petrol-laden tanker fell in Jalingo, Taraba State, and residents trooped out to scoop up the contents, which spilt on the road.
The tanker accident occurred at Mile 6 area of Jalingo around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
This comes a few days after nearly 100 persons lost their lives in a deadly tanker explosion in Niger State.
According to eyewitnesses, the residents trooped out to the scene and were scooping fuel from the faulty truck when the police and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) arrived at the scene and chased them off.
Amid the commotion, traders around the scene closed their shops and fled.
Spokesperson of the NSCDC in the state, Mr Illia Samuel who confirmed the incident said the driver of the truck sustained injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
“Immediately we got information about the accident, the command drafted our men to the scene to avert any occurrences that could lead to casualties. We are going to ensure that the area is safe for both residents and travelers,” he said.
