Two suspected armed robbers, Hamza Ibrahim, 19, and Abdulkarim Suleiman, 20, have been nabbed in Adamawa State.
A tricycle, a sharp knife, and handsets were recovered from the suspects.
The Adamawa State Police Command said on Monday that its operatives apprehended the suspects on Sunday, January 19, on suspicion that they had been involved in multiple robbery incidents in and around the state capital, Yola.
The suspects are believed to be part of a group of young criminals in the state known as Shila Boys.
“On 19/01/2025, the Command received a report from a concerned citizen about a robbery incident involving a group of Shila Boys operating with a tricycle along Yola Road,” the police said in a statement on Monday evening.
The statement, signed by police spokesman Suleiman Nguroje, explained that the suspects had robbed one Uba Ibrahim of his iPhone XR at Jippu Jam gate in Yola.
“Upon receiving the report, police operatives attached to Karewa Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly and intercepted the suspects at Malamre Junction,” the statement added.
The suspects were named as Hamza Ibrahim, 19, from Behind Shopping Complex, Jimeta-Yola North Local Government Area, and Abdulkarim Suleiman, 20, from Sengere Samunaka, Yola South Local Government Area.
According to the police: “Further investigation revealed that the suspects had earlier robbed one Bello Babangida of his iPhone 7 along the Jimeta-Yola road. Both stolen phones and the tricycle used in committing the crime were recovered at the scene.”
