Nnamdi Kanu: Kidnappers Learned It From Nigeria Govt – IPOB Lawyers

Posted by Thandiubani on Fri 17th Jan, 2025 - tori.ng

The lawyers said the Nigerian government set a kidnapping precedence when its agents abducted Kanu in Kenya and subjected him to extraordinary rendition in 2021.

The legal team of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has made an allegation against the Nigerian government.

The team claimed that kidnappers learnt abduction from the government.

The lawyers said the Nigerian government set a kidnapping precedence when its agents abducted Kanu in Kenya and subjected him to extraordinary rendition in 2021.

The lawyers who were led by lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, Nnaemeka Ejiofor, and Jude Ugwuanyi disclosed during a world press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

Speaking on behalf of the lawyers, Ejiofor said: “On the 28th March, 2019, the Federal Government of Nigeria lied to the Court that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had jumped bail and had violated the terms of his bail and then applied for the revocation of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s bail, the issuance of arrest warrant against him and an Order forfeiting the bail bonds of his sureties.

“The Court feigned ignorance of the fact that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did not jump bail but was forced into running aware to save his life and physical well-being and indeed granted the prayers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A move reprimanded by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

“Following the Orders of the Federal High Court revoking Onyendu’s bail and issuing a warrant of arrest, the Federal Government of Nigeria kidnapped and abducted Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Nairobi, Kenya to Nigeria in violation of Section 15 of Extradition Act, 2004.

“This makes it a trade now in Nigeria for kidnappers, and that is why I would say that the kidnappers we have today learnt from the Federal government.

“On the 29th day of June, 2021, the Federal Government of Nigeria produced Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in court and in the absence of his lawyers and without affording Onyendu the right to fair hearing, the Court ordered that Onyendu be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Security.”

Ejiofor queried the handling of Kanu’s case wondering if the IPOB leader was subjected to persecution and not prosecution as required by the law.

He said: “Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, it is the way and manner the case of Onyendu is handled in a manner that no lawyer can explain that agitates us and we now ask: Is Mazi Nnamdi Kanu being prosecuted or persecuted?

“In an attempt to arrive at a veritable answer to the above question, we shall address some salient issues pertaining to the way and manner Onyendu’s case is handled by the Federal Government of Nigeria.”
