Mixed Reactions As Obasa’s Portrait Is Removed From Lagos State Assembly (Video)

A video has captured the moment the portrait of impeached speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, was removed from the Lagos State House of Assembly chamber.

The video which went viral on Tuesday showed a man taking down the portrait, which had been displayed alongside those of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The video shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) followed Obasa’s impeachment on Monday over alleged financial misconduct.

The footage showed a man carefully removing the portrait of Obasa, symbolizing his formal exit as Speaker of the House.

The removal marked the end of his nearly 10-year reign as the Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.

Mojisola Meranda, formerly the Deputy Speaker, has now been elected as the new Speaker, making history as the first woman to occupy the position in the state.
