Three young men have been arrested by the Lagos State Command in connection with the de@th of their Facebook lover in the Surulere area of the state.
Although the identities of the suspects were not disclosed, Commissioner of Police Olanrewaju Ishola confirmed their arrest, revealing that the suspects extorted N300,000 from one of their victims before the murder took place.
Ishola stated that the suspects used social media platforms, including Facebook, to lure their victims.
“It is a case of kidnapping. The case was reported at the Tactical Team of Area C. Consequently, three persons were arrested,” he said. The commissioner explained that the suspects' modus operandi involved befriending victims via Facebook or Tinder and inviting them for a visit.
“The suspects’ mode of operation is to lure their victims through a Tinder app on social media or Facebook where they will make the victim a friend and then ask them to come for a visit,” Ishola explained.
“In one particular case, the victim was lured to a particular house, and N300,000 ransom was collected from the victim and his phone was taken from him. My detectives swung into action and three suspects were arrested,” he added. The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
