Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended a suspected burglar, David Adediji, for breaking into a residence and stealing valuables valued at over N200,000 in the Okorowepo area of Idiroko.
The suspect, aged 27, allegedly entered the home of a female resident through the window, damaging the iron security bars, and struck her on the head with an iron rod.
Confirming the incident, the Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect is known for using iron tools to break into homes and steal from residents. Odutola noted that Adediji carted away a Techno Spark phone valued at over N150,000, as well as N52,000 in cash, and injured the victim on the back and leg while attempting to escape.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the victim reported the incident at approximately 7:00 pm on Wednesday, prompting the Divisional Police Officer of the Idiroko Division to visit the scene and launch an investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest.
According to Odutola, during interrogation, Adediji confessed to the crime. She revealed that on January 1, 2025, at around 7:00 pm, a burglary victim reported that on December 31, 2024, at about 10:00 pm, Adediji forcibly entered her home, damaging the iron bars on her window and striking her on the head with an iron rod.
The victim further stated that Adediji took her Android phone and stole N52,000 in cash from her bag after searching the room. Detectives from the Idiroko Division visited the scene, and an investigation began immediately. Items including the iron rod and a plank used in the attack were recovered as evidence.
Adediji has since been arrested and admitted his involvement in the burglary. Odutola confirmed that a preliminary investigation is ongoing as the police gather more information, and the suspect is expected to be prosecuted once the investigation is concluded.
