A chilling video has emerged showing the moment a Jeju Air flight which was carrying 181 persons onboard crashed and erupted in flames on the runway early Sunday morning in Muan, South Korea, roughly 290 kilometers south of Seoul.
The aircraft, a 15-year-old Boeing 737-800, had just arrived from Bangkok, Thailand. The devastating crash left 179 people dead.
Authorities reported that the plane skidded off the runway and crashed into a concrete barrier after its front landing gear apparently failed to deploy.
Muan Fire Station Chief Lee Jeong-hyeon stated that the aircraft was utterly destroyed, with only the tail section still identifiable amid the debris.
This tragedy unfolds amid ongoing political turmoil in South Korea, where the president and acting president have both been impeached in the past two weeks.
