A 23-year-old nursing mother identified as Ella Samuel has been arrested by officers of the Edo State Police Command.
The woman was arrested for receiving stolen money from her lover, an armed robbery gang leader.
It was gathered that the armed robbery led attacks on the Amagba community and other areas in Benin City where they r3ped women in one of the houses.
The gang is also said to have, in another operation, stolen an ATM card, forcefully collected the owner’s PIN and transferred N460,000 from his account.
The money was traced to a bank account belonging to the suspect.
The police are said to have tracked the suspect to a hotel in Delta State where she was arrested while her lover, who is the gang leader, escaped.
It was gathered that during the investigation, the suspect was discovered to have four children with four different notorious men who are on the wanted list of the police.
Speaking with journalists, the suspect said she was arrested after her boyfriend sent stolen money to her account.
The command’s spokesman, SP Moses Yamu, said efforts are on to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
