Less than 48 hours after bandits robbed a motorcyclist of food and drinks, another gang has struck again, hijacking a pickup van and making away with foodstuff, drinks, and bottled water in Akoti village, Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State.
A community leader from the area confirmed the incident to our reporter over the phone on Wednesday.
He said the owner of the food items which comprised of bags of rice, jerrycan of vegetable oil, energy drinks, bottled water was from Jere heading to Akoti village.
He said the bandits suddenly emerged from the forest wielding AK-47 rifles and flagged down the pickup van, deflated some tyres and diverted it into the forest.
“The bandits emerged from the forest some kilometers to Akoti village, diverted the pickup van into the forest and ordered the driver and his conductor to offload the food items and drinks,” he said.
According to him, the owner of the items was still at Jere when he directed the pickup to convey them to Akoti village, where the items were meant for the Christmas celebration.
“So as God will save the man who owned the food items, he was still in Jere but told the driver to convey the food items to Akoti and he will join them later, otherwise he would have been abducted,” he said.
He said the bandits, after carting away the food items, released the driver and his conductor.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, was yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing the report.
