A guard, who is yet to be identified, has been taken into custody by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.

The guard was arrested over a vehicle that was stolen on the premises of the estate in the Ago Okota area of the state.

PUNCH Metro reports from the vehicle owner, a medical doctor, Kehinde Fadairo, on Tuesday that he had parked the vehicle on the estate premises on Sunday night but woke up on Monday to go to work and discovered that the vehicle was missing.

Fadairo noted that upon realising that his vehicle had gone missing, he raised the alarm and escalated to the estate authorities and the Chief Security Officer who invited the guard who was on duty overnight for inquiry.

He narrated that when the guard was queried about what could have happened, he disclosed that he opened the estate gate to some persons who drove the car out because he was not sure of who they were.

Fadairo said, “I did not go out on Sunday, so I parked the vehicle inside the estate before going to bed. I woke up on Monday to go to work, and I realised that my vehicle was missing.

“I informed the estate chairman and called the estate CSO, and they came over. We queried the guard on duty how a vehicle could have gone missing when we only had one entrance into the estate but he said he opened the gate for some persons who drove the vehicle because he did not know who was in it.

“It is surprising how my vehicle was stolen even though I installed some security features, including a steering lock.”

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, had yet to respond to messages sent to his line to inquiries about the incident as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer in the division who was privy to the matter but not privileged to speak with the media confirmed the incident to our correspondent in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.

The police officer disclosed that the guard was arrested but declined further comments on the matter.

“Yes, it was reported and the guard was arrested,”
the police officer said.

PUNCH Metro reported on November 15 that a 27-year-old private driver, Emmanuel Bright, allegedly stole a Toyota Rav 4 SUV with number plate EPE318HB belonging to his employer, Mrs Deborah Makinde, at T.A. Gardens in the Warewa area of Ogun State.

The 78-year-old retiree, who raised the alarm, had told our correspondent that the incident occurred on Friday, November 8, around 3 pm.

She narrated that Bright had sought her permission to wash the car, but she turned down his request. Bright was said to have again deflated the tyre of the car while he sought permission to pump it.

Citing her disapproval of the second request, Makinde said the driver thereafter drove the car away with the supposedly deflated tyre.
