A man suspected of engaging in phone theft, drug use, burglary, pickpocketing, and street fighting has been arrested in Oye Ekiti by officers of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps for multiple criminal activities.
In a statement by the Head of the Communication Department of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps, Officer Adeleye Abiodun Adewale, it was disclosed that the Amotekun operatives of the Oye Local Government Command arrested Mr Taiwo Emmanuel, a 28-year-old indigene of Omuo-Aran in Kwara State, on Sunday, December 15, 2024, during a joint patrol with other security agencies in the state.
The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps spokesperson stated that the Oye Ekiti Local Government Amotekun Command had been monitoring and suspecting the individual for several weeks before his eventual arrest.
Due to the discovery that the suspect was homeless and involved in persistent criminal activities in the town, he was asked to leave the town after signing an undertaking.
When the suspect, Taiwo Emmanuel, was searched, some expensive phones were found in his possession.
He confessed to stealing them from a clubhouse (Groove Garden) located in the town.
He also lamented his misfortune, explaining that the phones could not be sold due to the security PIN/passwords on them.
In a related development, officers were able to apprehend three of his associates who had been harboring and aiding him.
The suspect, alongside his three associates and the recovered exhibits (two phones: an iPhone XR Max and a Redmi Note 13), has since been handed over to the police in Oye Local Government for further investigations.
