How Police Officers Nabbed 1,254 Suspects, Recovered Stolen Goods In Jigawa (Photos)

During a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Dutse on Tuesday, Police Commissioner AT Abdullahi pointed out the remarkable achievements of the past year, attributing the successes to enhanced strategies and community collaboration.

The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of 1,254 suspects linked to various crimes across the state in 2024.

These crimes include armed robbery, cattle rustling, drug trafficking, theft, rape, and other offenses.

During a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Dutse on Tuesday, Police Commissioner AT Abdullahi pointed out the remarkable achievements of the past year, attributing the successes to enhanced strategies and community collaboration.

Among the notable cases, CP Abdullahi detailed the arrest of eight armed robbery suspects in Gwaram town on November 20, 2024. The suspects, who confessed to their crimes, have since been charged to court.

In a disturbing child abuse case, Sani Abdullahi was arrested on November 21, 2024, for sodomizing 12 minors in Basirka town. The suspect confessed to the crime and is currently undergoing trial.

Additionally, two suspects, Isah Isyaku and Sulaiman Yusuf, were apprehended on December 10, 2024, for vandalizing streetlight armoured cables in Gantsa town. Both admitted their involvement and are facing prosecution.

The police boss provided a breakdown of the year’s arrests, including: 88 armed robbery suspects, 19 kidnap suspects, 120 suspected rapists, 158 culpable homicide suspects, 869 others involved in various offenses.

The command also showcased a wide range of recovered items, including: 17 firearms, comprising AK-47 rifles and locally fabricated guns, 82 motorcycles and vehicles, 276 rustled animals, 408 tablets of Tramadol, 622 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 1,274 pieces of robber solution, 347 Exol tablets, and 254 Diazepam tablets.

Other stolen items are mobile phones, laptops, solar panels, and cement bags

“One of the most notable arrests was that of drug baron Sani Bashir on November 29, 2024. We recovered 23 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 100 packets of robber solution from him,” Abdullahi stated.

Abdullahi credited the achievements to the support of the Inspector-General of Police, the Jigawa State Government, and active contributions from citizens.

He also praised the collaboration of traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and the media.

The police chief reaffirmed the command’s dedication to ensuring Jigawa remains a safe and secure state. He called on the public to continue providing timely and accurate information to aid the fight against crime.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that crime and criminality are curbed in the state.

“I urge the public to continue providing timely and accurate information to help us in our fight against crime,”
he concluded.
