Popular Nigerian actress and movie producer, Funke Akindele has achieved a major feat as her newly released movie, titled “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” becomes the highest-grossing opening day film in Nollywood’s history.
According to the Nigerian Box Office, the movie, which premiered in cinemas last Friday, raked in an impressive N45.2 million on its opening day, with 9,409 admissions.
This achievement surpasses the record set by Akindele’s previous film, “A Tribe Called Judah,” which held the top spot in 2023.
“A Tribe Called Judah” had grossed over N1 billion at the Nigerian box office last year.
The Nigerian Box Office took to X to announce the record-breaking achievement, stating, “Everybody Loves Jenifa’ shattered box office records yesterday. It had the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film with ₦45.2M!” The post also highlighted that the film drew 9,409 admissions, surpassing the admissions of “A Tribe Called Judah” despite not screening at Genesis and missing most of the day at Silverbird Cinemas.
