He stated that he has co-sponsored a bill to amend the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in order to effect the creation of Adada State.

Hon. Chidi Obetta, the member representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly has revealed that Adada State will be the first to be created from the South East.

Obetta stated this over the weekend, during his 2nd Town Hall Meeting with his constituents at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.

He said Nsukka is the only old province yet to become a state despite its large population and landmass.

He stated that he has co-sponsored a bill to amend the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in order to effect the creation of Adada State.

Recall that apart from the proposed Adada State, there are also clamours for the creation of other states out of the present South-East. They include Etiti, Olu, Equity, Aba, Anim, among others.

However, Obetta declared that: “If there is any state that should be created from the South East, the first should be Adada State.

“Since 1979, the people of the South East have endorsed the creation of Adada State.

“If you look at it, Nsukka is the only old province that has not become a state.

“Abakaliki, Awka and Owerri have all become states but as you can see, Nsukka Zone still remains a senatorial District.”

“With the large population and landmass, we deserve to become a state” the lawmaker said.

He stated that the town hall meeting was organized to enable his constituents appraise his stewardship in the National Assembly for the past one year and to also articulate the needs of his constituents in order to chart a new course for the future.

He further said that most of his legislative actions were geared towards economic growth and empowerment, job creation, poverty reduction and advocacy for projects that would impact his constituents positively.
