A Nigerian man, Quadri Yakubu, has warned people to be mindful of who they stand as surety for in court.
He gave the advice on Tuesday after a relative he stood as surety for in an Abuja court ran away during an ongoing case.
He stated that after the case was brought up in court and the person was nowhere to be found, he was almost detained.
“April this Year, I stood as a surety for a relative at a court in the FCT that I do not know so well, only for this boy to run away while the case is still ongoing!,” he wrote.
"The case came up yesterday and they almost took me to where I no know, but thank God for a good legal counsel and supportive friends. We were able to resolve the issue out of court and the case was dismissed.
“I am putting this out so you are careful when you go to court to stand as a surety for anyone! You could get yourself into serious trouble.”
