A 34-year-old suspected gunrunner, Sunday Moses, has been apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command.
During the arrest, the Police recovered 364 rounds of live ammunition, two hand grenades, and other weapons from the suspect.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, said the suspect was arrested for illegal and secret importing ammunition into the state.
“In a bid to ensure a safe and secured environment for the forthcoming yuletide and ongoing farm product harvest season, the command has intensified visibility policing and raiding of criminal hideouts, stop and search operations across the state,” the statement read.
"These simultaneous operations, commenced from 1st December, 2024, in various hideouts within the state and it yielded results as one Sunday Moses, 34years a resident of Kwatau village, Hong local govt area was arrested for illegal and secret importing ammunition into the State.
"The Command had successfully cleared some areas within metro, extended its presence to Song, Gombi and Hong local Government area leading to the arrest and the recoveries.
"The suspect was apprehended, and offensive weapons were recovered thus: (1) 193 rounds of 7.62mm of live ammunition. (2) 171 rounds of 9x19 pistol ammunitions. (3) Two hand grenades
“During these operations, several hideouts were dislodged, criminals would be denied the opportunity of regrouping anywhere within the state.”
The Commissioner of Police CP Dankombo Morris, expressed gratitude for the support the command was receiving from the public and encouraged them to remain vigilant while providing timely information to security agencies.
"Together, we will ensure peace and security across the State and beyond," the police boss added.
