Philip Shaibu
The immediate-past deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has said that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo will succeed if he receives physical and spiritual support from the people.
He urged Edo residents to earnestly pray for the governor so he can deliver his campaign promises.
Shaibu stated this after a thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin to mark his 55th birthday.
He praised the Governor for hitting the ground running, adding that his appointments would benefit the Edo people.
Shaibu said, “The programmes and the appointments made by Governor Monday Okpehbolo, will definitely benefit Edo people. My prayer is that he gets the needed funds to deliver the dividends of democracy.
“So far, the governor has been very good. I am very happy with the flyover flag-off and excited that from his first day in office, he did not keep governance comatose. He made some appointments immediately and I think he has started very well but like I have always said, Edo people should pray to God to give him wisdom to lead the state.
“The way he can survive and succeed is for us to give both physical and spiritual support. Leaders must be prayed for at all times so that they will not make mistakes, we should pray for Senator Monday Okpebholo so that he can deliver to us all the promises he made.”
He added, “I thank God for all those opportunities, the experiences and the challenges I have had. Despite the ups and downs, God has preserved my life, as a students’ union activist and even as the deputy governor. We survived the military dictatorship attitudes that surfaced in a democracy.
“I thank Nigerians and the people of the Edo State in the last 19 months. The young ones now know their right and I will encourage them not to allow anybody to trample on their right. Don’t give up, there is hope in Nigeria.”
The event was attended by some high-profile politicians like the acting Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhurdjakpo, Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr. Pius Odubu, former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, Senator Matthew Uroghide, Hon Razak Belo-Osagie, serving and former lawmakers of the state House of Assembly, council chairmen, among others.
