Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has revealed that the party's former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has not notified anyone about his intentions to run in the 2027 election.
He spoke while noting that the PDP is a very structured political party that does not “dash” its ticket at any level to people.
The former presidential campaign spokesman for Atiku insisted that candidates must contest in PDP’s primary elections for every ticket.
Speaking with News Central TV, Sowunmi said: “The PDP is a very interesting and structured party; we are not like our rivals. We don’t ‘dash’ people the presidential ticket or any other ticket. Every PDP ticket, from the smallest one — councillor — people have to contest for it in the primaries, same with the governorship. The Presidency is not any different.
“I have insisted that it’s too early for the PDP to be talking about the presidential election in 2027. Why? Because we need to fix the vehicle that will carry everybody there; otherwise, what’s the point? So, I think it’s a little bit premature.
“In any case, Atiku has not told anybody in clear terms that he’s going to run; I have asked him twice, with months in between.”
