Ibe said if Danladi Umar, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, can be sacked, then the same fate should befall Yakubu.
Paul Ibe, the spokesman of the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has asked President Bola Tinubu to sack the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu.
According to Ibe, Yakubu should meet the same fate that was served Danladi Umar, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT who was recenlty sacked by Tinubu.
He described the INEC Chairman as one of the worst public officials and should be given a gold medal for gross partisanship.
Posting on X, Ibe wrote: “Yes, Danladi Umar, Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), is one of the worst public officials of our time.
“But the gold medal for gross partisanship by any public official actually belongs to the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu.
“The question is, if it was that easy for the Nigerian Senate to sack Umar on account that any public official screened by the Upper House can be removed by it, why is it pussy footing in the sack of the INEC Chairman?”
Danladi’s removal followed the two-thirds majority of Senators’ vote required to validate the resolution of the legislative Chamber.
The Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele had sponsored a motion seeking the “invocation of the provision of Section 157(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended for the removal of the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.”
