A video has surfaced online showing Nigerian soldiers assaulting a man and his wife over use of road.
The sad incident happened in Abuja.
In the trending video, the soldiers were captured on tape assaulting and brutalizing the man after forcefully opening his car.
Following the incident, the victim, Master Vershima Mker and Miss Lami Jennifer Iorvihi have now demanded for justice.
The victims, through their solicitors, Tom Uja & Co., have petitioned the Chief of Army Staff, calling for the immediate dismissal of Major General G.S. Mohammed and Corporal A. Abubakar, alongside a compensation claim of N150 million.
The incident reportedly occurred in Gwarinpa on 3rd Avenue while the victims were visiting family and friends as part of their preparations for an upcoming wedding.
According to the letter, Major General Mohammed and his convoy, blaring sirens, arrived at the crowded scene.
Despite limited space on the road, the convoy allegedly forced its way through, leading to an altercation.
The petitioners accuse the soldiers of dragging Mker and Iorvihi out of their vehicle, subjecting them to beatings, and wounding them.
They further allege that the victims were detained without cause at a police station, enduring more abuse.
The letter emphasizes the physical and psychological trauma inflicted, describing the treatment as inhumane and unjust.
Tom Uja & Co. argued that the victims had committed no crime to warrant such aggression, and the ordeal has left lasting impacts on their well-being. “Our clients were merely visiting relatives when the convoy, led by Major General G.S. Mohammed, accosted them. The brutality they suffered is unacceptable, and we demand accountability,” the letter reads.
The solicitors stressed the urgency of their demands, which include not only the dismissal of the implicated officers but also monetary compensation to address the grievous harm inflicted.
The case has sparked public concern over the use of force by military personnel and the implications of unchecked authority.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the Nigerian Army for a response to the accusations and the measures they may take to ensure justice and accountability within their ranks.
