Inibehe Effiong, a Nigerian human rights lawyer, has urged lawyers and judges in the country to find a way to insulate courts from FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike’s manipulation and grip.
Effiong, in a post on his X handle on Thursday, was reacting to human rights lawyer, Femi Falana’s view that it is wrong for Wike to give judges houses and cars.
The development comes after Wike had flagged off the design and construction of 40 judges’ quarters in the Katampe District in Abuja.
The action generated controversy, with many arguing that it is unethical.
However, while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Falana argued that it is wrong for the executive to give gifts to the members of the judiciary, especially judges.
Meanwhile, while supporting the senior lawyer’s view, Effiong said, “This is supposed to be elementary. Lawyers and judges in Nigeria should find a way to insulate our courts from Wike’s manipulation and grip.”
