According to a police report, Emmanuel, who resides at Ogbeni Camp in the Ofosu area of Idanre, also allegedly hacked his 3-year-old son on the head with the intent to kill him.

The toddler, identified as Sunday, was said to have sustained a life-threatening injury.

It was learnt that the suspect, who has been remanded in the facility of the Nigerian Correctional Service, had a dispute with his wife over how to spend their annual wages.

The suspect was consequently arraigned by the police before a magistrates’ court in the state.

Police prosecutor, Josephine Awanna, told the court that Emmanuel committed two-count charge of murder and attempted murder.

The charge read, “That you, Sunday Emmanuel, on October 7, 2004, at about 5:30am at Ogbeni Camp via Ofosu, in the Ondo Magistraterial District, did unlawfully kill one Linda Emmanuel, 35, by macheting her on the neck and cheek.

“That you, Sunday Emmanuel, on the same date, time and place, unlawfully attempted with the intention to kill your son, aged 3, by macheting him on the head.”

He explained that the suspect committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319 (1) and 320 (1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo state, 2006.

However, the plea of the suspect was not taken in the court.

Due to the nature of the offence, the prosecutor prayed the court to remand the suspect in the correctional facility pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi remanded the suspect at the Correctional Service pending the advice from the DPP.

She later adjourned the case till February 2, 2025, for mention.
