No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead following a renewed violent clash between herders and farmers in Taraba State, Northeast Nigeria.

The violent confrontation also saw the killing of over 50 cows in Gwomu village in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of the state, according a police report.

Spokesperson for the Taraba State Police Command, DSP Gambo Kwache confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Friday.

"Yes, I can confirm that a total of four persons were killed in the avoidable conflict involving herders and farmers at Gwomu in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.

"Besides human lives, over 50 cows were killed during the violent confrontation involving the two communities,"
Kwache said.

A resident of the area who spoke on condition of anonymity informed that the conflict erupted when one Abednego from Gwomu was found dead on his farmland on September 16, 2024.

He added, "The herders grazed their animals on the farmland and killed the farm owner also."

Narrating what happened, the National Chairman of Tabital Pullaku Jonde Jam, Ardo Jarenga Galdu, noted that his son was one of the four persons killed.

Also commenting, a youth leader in Gwomu, Usman Yakubu, decried the violence, saying, "We've been living peaceful with the herders; in fact, there's intermarriage relationships between our two communities.

"Therefore, we urge the youths on both sides to desist from further hostilities in the interest of peace.”

The police have however assured that normalcy had been restored in the area.
