Residents of Mpape and Maitama in Abuja have voiced concerns about the earth tremors that have been felt in the area for the past three days.
Concerned residents went on X on Monday, September 16, to lament that the earth tremor experience, accompanied by a concerning noise, was first noticed on Saturday, September 14, and has continued for three days.
The tremors have also been felt around Katampe junction, the area linked with the Murtala Muhammad Expressway.
A resident, Obinna Ngozi, told DailyTrust that the buildings shake whenever the movement takes place, causing fear. The resident said he noticed the movement about 10 times on Saturday alone, from when it started sometime around 4 pm, adding that the situation worsened the following day, Sunday.
Another resident who gave his name as Muhammad Ibrahim, said he earlier mistook the development as a bomb blast, because it sounded different from that of quarry mining.
A miner, Nasiru Ahmad who spent years in the profession within the community, noted that one can hardly understand where the sound originates from, unlike that of stone blasting, that can be easily identified.
On X, residents tagged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and asked for explanations.
