Ogun University Expels 31 Students, Suspends 47 Others For Misconduct

Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), has taken strict disciplinary measures against 78 students for various academic and behavioural infractions.

The university, located in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, and owned by Ogun State, announced the expulsion of 31 students and the indefinite suspension of 47 others in a statement released by its Public Relations Office on Tuesday.

One of the expelled students, Ojo Michael, a sophomore in the Computer Science Department, has been rusticated for the entire 2023/2024 academic year. The decision was reached during a university Senate meeting held on July 31, 2024.

Michael’s expulsion came after he was found guilty of falsifying his Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to qualify fraudulently for the Student Union elections.

In addition to Michael, 17 other students were expelled for engaging in examination malpractice. Five students faced sanctions for issuing threats, while another was penalized for fraudulent activities.

The university’s Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee conducted thorough investigations before recommending the sanctions.

In its statement, the university emphasized that students found guilty of misconduct would face strict consequences in accordance with institutional regulations.

Furthermore, 47 students have been placed on indefinite suspension for various offenses, including impersonation.

The university has instructed the affected students to stay off-campus to avoid possible confrontations with security personnel.

The institution’s Senate reiterated its commitment to maintaining academic discipline and integrity, warning that any student found engaging in misconduct would face severe repercussions as per the university’s rules.

“The Senate, at its Statutory meeting of 31st July 2024 has approved that Ojo Micheal, a 200-level student in the Computer Science Department be rusticated for the 2023/2024 Academic session for forgery of CGPA to contest Student Union Elections.

“17 other students got rusticated for examination malpractice, 5 for threat to life and 1 other for fraudulent act.

“47 students were found guilty of misconduct and were thus given indefinite suspension and another ten for impersonation.

“Other various punishments were also meted out for various misconducts as recommended by the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

“The affected students have been advised in their interest to stay off the Campus to avoid being embarrassed by the University Security Personnel
,” the statement read.
