Nigerian billionaire businessman, Obinna Oyiegbu, better known as Obi Cubana, has spoken up on why he threw a lavish burial for his beloved mother.

He stated that no one in his family has lived up to the age of 80, hence the reason he went all out to bury her.

Recall that before July 2021, not much was known about the life of the nightlife entrepreneur.

However, Obi Cubana gained the spotlight after staging a talk-of-the-town burial for his septuagenarian mum, and no ceremony staged by a Nigerian in Nigeria has come close since then.

In an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwu, Obi Cubana said the family looked forward to their mother breaking a generational jinx as nobody had ever lived up to 80 years.

The socialite said he and his siblings were saving up for their mother’s 80th birthday before she died, and having lived up to age 79, they decided to have a lavish funeral for her.

In his words, “In my family, nobody has lived up to 80 years, and I’m saying this for the first time. My father died at 66, my grandmother died at 75, my grandfather died at 78, and it ran through to my mom. All my siblings are married and successful, and we were praying for my mother to break the generational jinx and the kind of party we would throw for you, nobody would ever do it and will started saving up for that. And she died on 31st December and she was 79 at then after celebrating 78, and the good thing is that from 74, every year.

“We celebrate her birthday massively, even the COVID-19 year, we had to celebrate her in my elder brother’s house in Abuja, we didn’t travel and that was the only way. My mother was a humanitarian and also caters for widows. We were planning for the 80th birthday because she was so much looking forward to that age and she died. So I said, she tried 79 and half, so we brought everything together to celebrate her at least she tried and almost broke the jinx, that was why we went all out for the burial.”
