Ololade Ahmed, the Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer, who is popularly known as Asake, has explained why he sings predominantly in Yoruba.

Speaking during a recent interactive session with fans on Instagram, the ‘Ome Ope’ crooner explained that he can sing in English but feels more comfortable singing in his native dialect, Yoruba.

He said that those who are not willing to accept him singing predominantly in Yoruba should stop listening to his music altogether.

“I am more comfortable singing in Yoruba, it’s not that I can’t sing in English. If you fvck with me, fvck with me with my Yoruba. If not, then don’t,” he said.

All three of Asake’s albums, ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’ (2022), ‘Work of Art’ (2023), and the latest ‘Lungu Boy’ were sung predominantly in Yoruba.

His hit song ‘Amapiano’ was nominated in the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys despite being predominantly sung in Yoruba but lost to South African singer Tyla’s viral hit ‘Water’.
