Ladipoe
Popular Nigerian rapper, Ladipoe has recounted his journey before fame and how he became successful in his career.
In a recent interview, the Mavin Records artist recounted how industry insiders initially doubted his potential for success in Nigeria due to his unique musical style.
Ladipoe revealed that anonymous figures in the music industry attempted to discourage him by disparaging his hip-hop style, advising him to relocate if he wanted to pursue a career in music.
Despite the scepticism, Ladipoe chose to stay and follow his passion, a decision that has paid off significantly.
He noted that all his songs have surpassed his expectations, proving his critics wrong.
Reflecting on his journey, Ladipoe expressed pride in his progress but admitted he is not entirely satisfied with his achievements.
In his words;
“All my songs have exceeded my expectations. When I first started making music, I was told that because of my style, no one would ever listen to my songs here in Nigeria and that I should try elsewhere in the world.”
“It is human nature for satisfaction to be elusive. I feel this applies twice as much to creative people, such as artistes like myself. I am grateful but not satisfied.”
Ladipoe also shared a memorable, humbling experience from his early career.
“I remember once, early in my career, I came on stage with so much energy and shouted into the microphone, ‘Who is ready for some more hip-hop’?. Meanwhile, that was a time when hip-hop music was facing serious fluctuation in its appeal.
“The overwhelming response from the crowd was, ‘no’. I remember being so deflated. To make matters worse, my band started off by playing the wrong song first, which further demoralized me. It was terrible. But, I look back now and laugh. I am grateful for growth,” he added.
