Shocking! Family Kills 21-year-old Daughter for Falling in Love with Poor Lower-caste Man (Photos)

 

A family in accused of killing their daughter because she fell in love with a lower-caste man are facing a murder investigation in southern India.

 

According to Dailymail, the family killed their 21-year-old daughter and tried to cover it up by arranging a quick funeral and cremation before anyone could inspect her body.

 

The 21-year-old victim - named only as Madhu in local media - is said to have been killed because she refused to give up the romance.

 

Reports say the university graduate had threatened to elope with the boy if her parents did not give the relationship their blessing.

 

Trouble started for the family when neighbours became suspicious of the rapid funeral, and believe that the girl's family were trying to hide something. They reported the girl's death to police, who have now seized her remains.

 

Forensic scientists are examining her remaining ashes and bones to see if they can find any evidence of a violent death. Although the cremation has already taken place, it appears that investigators still believe there could be evidence of foul play.

 

According to local media, police commissioner Abhinav Khare explained: 'We have collected samples of ash and bones which are being examined.

 

 

India’s caste system is a social structure that divides different groups into ranked categories. Members of “higher” castes have a greater social status than individuals of a “lower” caste.

 

Indian law prohibits discrimination by caste, although caste identities remain of great significance at the local level, especially in relation to marriage. A survey in 2005 found that only 11 per cent of women had married a man of different caste.
