The Bayelsa faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Governor, Duoye Diri of mounting pressure on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute Timipre Sylva.
APC's spokesperson in the state, Doifie Buokoribo said on Monday, December 4, that Diri is instigating the anti-graft agency to arrest and prosecute Mr Sylva to stop him from challenging his recent election victory at the tribunal.
He added that this is because PDP and Diri know they are holding a “stolen mandate.”
Buokoribo said;
“We are aware of Senator Diri’s devious activities at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission aimed at sponsoring invented petitions against Sylva, and the pressure he is mounting on officials of the commission to initiate arrest and prosecution against him on trumped-up charges, particularly, bordering on his tour of duty as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.”
Responding to the claim, PDP's spokesperson in Bayelsa State, Ebiye Ogoli said the APC is suffering from post-election trauma and its leaders need to be examined. He added that the APC in the state is engaging in misleading and vexatious propaganda.
