A Nigerian woman has been arrested in Malawa.
The woman identified as Annie Nwozuzu Chinyere was reportedly arrested in Malawi in connection with the murder of a banker, Agnes Katengeza who was found dead in her car a day after she was reported missing.
Katengeza, an employee of the Reserve Bank of Malawi, left home on September 23, 2023, to sell merchandise (INUKA products) and did not specify exactly where she was going. She was found bundled in the trunk of her vehicle in Lilongwe’s Area 47 on September 24.
Chinyere’s lawyer, Chrispine Mndala, who confirmed the development to a Malawi publication, Nation Online on Monday, October 23, said that she was indeed arrested and police confiscated her phones.
Mndala added that the suspect appeared before court Lilongwe Magistrate Court on Thursday where she applied for bail and the court is yet to set date to make a ruling.
According to the publication, Chinyere was reportedly arrested on September 27 after Police tracking Katengeza’s cellphone calls were led to her house.
"When the police wanted to interview this lady, she behaved suspicious to the point of dodging the police. It is this behaviour that motivated the police to detain her cellphones,” a source said.
