Kenny St. Brown, the Nigerian Gospel singer, has explained that the entertainment industry in the country needs a regulatory body to safeguard artistes following the death of fast-growing singer, Mohbad.

Reacting to the death of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, Kenny St. Brown accused the government of neglect for failing to create a regulatory body to safeguard artistes.

The singer also went on to urge the entertainment industry to create a body to help in handling issues between artistes and their record labels.

Speaking on Arise TV, Kenny St. Brown said: “What we are seeing now is as a result of neglect. Neglect from the Government, neglect from the system that should have provided regulation, policies, protection, and defence.

“The entertainment industry in Nigeria is organically grown, and because it is organically grown, they think issues can be settled without a third party.

“It has gotten to a stage where things have gone beyond our hands. The entertainment industry is porous. Anyone can start a label and sign artiste, no regulatory body to curtail this.

“If the pharmaceutical industry can have a regulatory body called the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration, NAFDAC, creatives should have one too.

“Until we have a regulatory body for the entertainment industry, record labels will continue to exploit these young acts.”
