Having just turned 69 on March 7, we thought it fitting to bring to you a few unsuspecting facts about multi-award winning veteran Nigerian actor, Chief Pete Edochie who is considered one of Africa's most talented actors, by both Movie Awards and Movie Magic's Africa Magic Cable network.

Below are 5 facts about the film mogul;

1. His beard has been a great pride to him as he has never shaved it since he was 23 years. According to Pete Edochie, ‘the beard gives him character and he would not shave it off for money.’ However the veteran actor trims his trademark beards from time to time.

2. Pete got married at the age of 22 and he is blessed with 6 children. With a further 5 Grandchildren to add to the list.

3. Pete Edochie rose to prominence for playing Okonkwo in the screen adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s 'Things Fall Apart' in the 1980s, a role which earned him several awards including a British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) exclusive interview.

4. The legendary actor reckons he and the late Chinua Achebe were close as a result of his perfect interpretation of the role of Okonkwo 'People still call me Ebube Dike' and 'before Chinua Achebe died, he was calling me Ebube Dike.'

'He never called me Pete, and we were very close. Each time people visited him in America, he would ask them about me.'

5. Interestingly Pete is not used to watching Nollywood movies and only started watching as a result of his son’s (Yul Edochie) involvement in the filming industry.
