Doctors in UCH Ibadan Killed My Wife - Man Alleges

A man in the South-western part of Nigeria has accused medical personnel in the University College Hospital of causing the death of his wife as a result of lack of expertise.

The deceased, Mrs. Funmilayo Adebayo

Mr. Aare Femi Adebayo, a business mogul, has demanded that an independent postmortem be done on the remains of his wife, Mrs. Funmilayo Adebayo, even as he accused doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, of killing his wife, according to the New Telegraph.

Remembering how his wife died, Adebayo said: “My wife was killed by the negligence and incompetence of the doctors.” Two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Akin Olujinmi and Rotimi Akeredolu, have demanded for the release of Funmilayo’s autopsy result within the next seven days. Funmilayo, 58, was said to have died at the hospital after she started going for medical tests to check if she had cancer.

The test became vital to her after her sister, Toluwalade Akinola, died last year. Adebayo said that Funmilayo drove herself to the hospital accompanied by her house help, Odunayo. But after some medical processes, she started feeling pains.

Adebayo said that he later received a call from the house help. He rushed to the hospital, only to discover that the gas passed into his wife was excessive and believed to have allegedly perforated her intestines. Adebayo said: “When I got to the hospital, I couldn’t go in. I stayed outside but overheard their discussions.

"She told them she was in pains. She wanted to go home.”
He said that one of the doctors told him that they put gas into her and discovered she started experiencing pains.

The broken hearted man continued:

“We were with them till around 2 a.m., the following day. We went for X-ray to see what went wrong. After that they said they had to take her for surgery because the lungs or intestine was not okay or had been perforated.

"I told them that her lungs or the intestines were okay before the test began, how come she now had perforated ones? At that point, I suspected that the gas was too much and the intestines had been damaged.”
