Senator Aisha Alhassan has emerged as the first elected female governor in Nigeria following a tribunal judgment which declared her the rightful winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship elections in Taraba State.

The Taraba Governorship Election Petition Tribunal ruled on Saturday, November 7, that Alhassan had won the polls and ordered Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to vacate the position immediately.

Here are 7 interesting things you should know about Senator Aisha Alhassan:

(1)  She became the first female Chief Magistrate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 1996.

(2)   She was the first female Deputy Chief Registrar and Director Litigation, High Court of the FCT Abuja in 1997.

(3)   She was appointed the first female Attorney General of my Taraba State in 1997.

(4)  She was appointed the First female Secretary of the FCT Judicial Service Committee in November, 2002.

(5)  She became the first female Chief Registrar of the High Court of the FCT in December 2003

(7) She’s a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Fiji, a country in the South Pacific.

(8) She’s been married twice; first to Professor Ango Abdullahi and then to Engineer M S Alhassan.
