Police Corporal Brutally Murdered By Gunmen In Zamfara State

 

No fewer than six persons, including a police corporal, were on Friday killed by about 100 bandits in Gurbin Bore village, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

 

Confirming the incident to NAN in Gusau on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mohammed Shehu, said the bandits attacked the community at about 10pm on Friday night.

 

Shehu said three other persons were severely wounded and had been taken to hospital where they were receiving treatment.

 

He added, “Eleven vehicles, including a police vehicle, three motorcycles and five kiosks, were set ablaze by the hoodlums.”

 

The command spokesman noted that the bandits, who were suspected to have come from Dumburum Forest, were engaged by a combined team of counter-terrorists, comprising the Police Mobile Force and Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad personnel stationed in the area, which repelled the criminals.

 

He said the footpath of the bandits was being trailed in the bushes, adding that the perpetrators would be arrested and brought to book.

 

The Vice-Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran, also said a total of 13 shops were burnt, while 15 vehicles were set ablaze.

 

An eyewitness and resident, Mr Manir Salihu, said his family had repeatedly been threatened by the bandits, including two attempts to set his house on fire while members of the family were inside.

 

Meanwhile, Governor AbdulAziz Yari has commiserated with the families of six persons who lost their lives in the attack.

 

Yari, according to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Ibrahim Dosara, expressed regret that after months of respite, the bandits had resurfaced.

 

The governor commended the efforts by the security agents in the state for responding quickly and crushing the attack within the shortest possible time.
