Busayo Oyeleye, a 23-year-old nursing mother was almost stripped n*ked at Ondo State Police Command headquarters as the clothes she was wearing and the wrapper she used to strap her baby to her back were identified as stolen items.
According to Vanguard, Busayo was arrested by Police detectives in lieu of her fleeing husband, Oyeleye, alleged to be a robbery suspect.
It was drama at the Police headquarters as some of the victims, whose clothes, food items, such as yams, yam flour, salt, seasoning cubes, furniture, standing fan, motorcycles, power generating sets and other household items were stolen, identified them.
Police source hinted that Busayo’s husband went underground after three other members of his gang were arrested by detectives. His wife was picked up and detained with her baby.
Shedding tears while answering questions from newsmen, Busayo said her husband told her he bought the clothes in the market, denying knowledge of what kind of business her fleeing husband does.
One of the robbery victims identified the clothes the suspect’s wife was wearing and the wrapper used to carry her baby as some of her belongings.
The timely intervention of Police officers prevented her from being stripped n*ked by the victim.
Parading other members of the robbery gang, the state Police Commissioner, Olugbenga Adeyanju, said the suspects burgled a shop at Gaga community and carted away some goods.
Adeyanju added that detectives swung into action and arrested three suspects, namely Omotayo Sunday, 23, of lgbara Odo in Ekiti State; Olarewaju Olalekan, 22, of same address, and the nursing mother, Oyeleye Busayo, 23, of ldanre.
The Police Commissioner said two other members of the gang are still at large, adding that a toy gun was found in the house of one Adeniyi Itunu, who is at large, while food items, motorcycles and power generating sets were recovered from the suspects.
He said investigation is still in progress, as those arrested will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
