Ivory Coast Striker Dubbed the 'Next Drogba' Shot Dead by Armed Robbers for Refusing to Hand Over His Car

Ivorian striker, who was dubbed the 'Next Didier Drogba' and plays for Hungarian Premier League club, has been shot dead in Ivory Coast when he visited his country.

A 26-year-old Ivory Coast striker and top-flight European footballer, Georges Griffiths, who has played for Czech giants, Sparta Prague and Hungarian Premier League club, Diosgyor, has been killed by gun-toting carjackers in his his country.
 
According to The Sun, the striker who was visiting his home city Abidjan, was attacked in the capital's upmarket suburb Cocody last week Thursday evening.
 
It was gathered that two armed thugs reportedly tried to steal Griffiths' Mercedes 4x4, and shot the 6ft 4ins player when he refused to hand it over. He was rushed to hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.
 
 
The striker was once tipped to become a new Didier Drogba, winning three caps for the Ivory Coast's Under-23 side in 2011.
 
He began his career with Ivorian clubs Sirocco and Indenie, then had a spell on loan to Sparta Prague before Hungarian outfit Lombard-Papa signed him in 2013.
 
Griffiths joined their rivals Diosgyor a year later, and spent three seasons with them.
 
In 34 appearances for the club, scoring eight times.
