The director-general of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), Onyeka Onwenu finally attended to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the alleged N17million contract bribe.

Onwenu is being interrogated after her personal assistant, Chika Abazu, who was on July 10 arraigned before a Federal Capital Territory High Court on a six-count charge of bribery and gratification, was involved in a N17 million bribery allegation.

It would be recalled that she was earlier reluctant to attend the interrogation session on health grounds. As reported, Mrs.Onwenu was granted administrative bail after questioning.

The Leadership reports that Mrs. Onwenu made her apperance at the ICPC office on Monday, 10th of August and after the grilling process, she was permitted to leave on recognition. Investigations are ongoing on the allegations of bribery even as the outcome is currently unknown.

Other key persons interrogated on the issue include Mukhtar Usman, Jauro Jibrin and Sadeeq Umar, who were all released pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Though Abazu pleaded not guilty to the charges, he was denied bail and ordered to be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Kuje, until the case is dispensed with and the presiding judge, Justice Chukwu Ndukwe, adjourned the case till September 28 for trial to commence.
